Great American Underground Railway Company

Let’s get this place back in buisness, shal we?

March 7th, 2010 Posted in Announcements | 2 Comments »

As you might have noticed, we havent had any major updates here lately.

The main reason for this is simple, but yet again hard.

My Gaurc partner and best friend Rick goddell has  gotten interested in other games, and handed most of the daily routines at gaurc to me. However, he is  the legal owner of the domain.

He still drops by from time to time.

I’ll get him back here one way or another….

I will continue supporting Trainz, mainly 06,  running the subdivision at  caddylars.gaurc.us/

and the forum at gaurc.us/forum/

The only change made at the forum now, is that you must register to watch any post. Maybe it was wrong, but i’ll keep it like that for a while.

If anybody out there has wishes or ideas that might work, or you are interested in being a part of the team, you can contact me trought the forum, as caddylars, or even leave a comment.

Other than this i am close to announce the release of Ida V2.

Thanks for reading.

Ida Terminal Release (Ida V2)

March 20th, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized | No Comments »
The time has come to release this route, even though its not 100% done. I have left out some spots here and there, due to the graphic.

This Route is created in Trs 2006 SP 1

The route is heavy enough as it is, highly detailed at several locations. I have used a fair amount of splines, fencing etc which can be deleted if needed, I’m pretty sure a few of the trailers at the terminals also can be removed. Housing along the tracks and in the distance is not necessary either, but i like it like that.
You might notice the bare tracks, forming a loop with a lot of sidings on the right side in the mini map. These are placed there in case i should complete the entire route the way i intended to do, but i have used enough time as it is. Delete them, or build it yourself.
Download link will be posted in the downloadsection at Gaurc Forum.

Registration Required

The download should contain everything you need, at a total of 405Mb as a .RAR file, 500 when extracted

Should there be missing dependencies, i ask you to contact me in the forum, in the Ida Terminal support section
This will help me create The needed servicepack.
It has not been betatested, so there might be Flaws and ****ups.
Lars

Lost & Found: Prototype Video of SMVRR In Action

July 15th, 2009 Posted in Prototype, Video | 4 Comments »

I’ve been having a fantastic time with the SMVRR Trainz Route by CaddyLars!

As luck would have it, I was searching my train video archive and I happened upon some footage (from a much longer movie about sugar beet trains) of the real SMVRR involved in sugar beet processing…

Car Movement & Traffic Management System

May 4th, 2009 Posted in Announcements | 4 Comments »

dap

GAURC Member DAP  has completed the first version of a new system of freight traffic management for Auran Trainz.  For those of you that are modeling prototype operations and are looking for a car destination system for your route, it is now a reality.

After much research, I created what I call the Car Movement and Traffic Management System, or CMTM for short. This is a fully integrated car card/waybill system that is automated with lots of features that you will never find in a physical car-card/waybill system. As you begin your session, every freight car on the route is automatically assigned a destination. Whenever a train is emitted on to the route via a portal, every freight car in that train is assigned a destination, automatically. The assignment of destinations is not completely random, but is based on a database of car movements and a preplanned traffic pattern created for the route.

In Driver mode, the CMTM System merely presents the name of the car, the current destination and load/empty status for the car on which the camera is currently focused. The data is presented in a small window in the upper left corner of the screen. This allows the player to plan and execute the delivery of each car. Once a car is delivered to it’s destination, the player clicks on the appropriate location in the window to let the system know delivery has been made. When the designated amount of time has elapsed for loading or unloading, a new destination will be shown for that car. If the destination is a portal to take the car off the route, no action is needed by the player when the car arrives at the portal.

One cool feature of this system is that any set of cars will work, as long as you have the correct types of cars the system expects for the local industries. The database of car movements does not care which cars you use on the route, other than they need to be freight cars.

Another feature of this system is the support of multiple days of operations. As you start the session, you must first choose which day you would like to run. If you have planned your industries requirements and traffic patterns appropriately, each day will present a different pattern of car destinations.

The manual for this system can be downloaded here as a PDF file.  CMTM User’s Manual 011810 Release

You can get the files here. CMTM System Files

Santa Maria Valley Railroad v1 Freeware Route For Trainz 2006-SP1

April 16th, 2009 Posted in Routes | 20 Comments »

smvrrcover480

Part 1 of the SMVRR route for Trainz 2006-SP1, designed and built by CaddyLars, has now been released to the public!

The route uses DEM terrain data, Google satellite imagery , and the Proto-LARS commodity system to create a Trainz 2006-SP1 add-on that is both the ultimate in prototypical accuracy and a true work of art by a recognized master.

This product is available to Registered GAURC Members as a freeware download.

It will be necessary to download some additional freeware dependencies from from sources listed on the author’s development blog, and possibly from the Auran Download Station. The route will not appear or function correctly without these assets!

There is also discussion and support threads on this route at the GAURC Forum, both of which are moderated by the author.

Be sure and check out CaddyLars’ Subdivision where you can read the development blog, see many more screenshots and get news about progress on SMVRR Part 2!

Additional information about the real SMVRR can be found by visiting the Santa Maria Valley Railroad and Friends of the Santa Maria Railroad web sites.

The GAURC Development Team would like very much to hear from anyone interested in skinning appropriate locomotives and rolling stock for this railroad. If you have the skills and desire to participate in this great project, please send an email to: yardmaster@gaurc.us.

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner v2 Freeware Route For Trainz 2006-SP1 By Chrisracer8903

Welcome to the West Coast! This is the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner route. This route runs from Los Angeles to San Diego, California. This route includes the line from Los Angeles Union Station, thru Anaheim and along the Pacific Coast to Oceanside, California.

This route also is owned by BNSF/ Santa Fe and Union Pacific/ Southern Pacific have trackage rights on this line from Commerce to Fullerton. There is the Los Angeles River, Hobart Intermodal Terminal, Commerce Yard, Redondo Flyover, Redondo Shops, 8th Street and 4th Street Yard.

This route also is used by Metrolink to Oceanside. There is CP College in Anaheim, Kimberly Avenue Industrial Lead, and Anaheim Stadium. In Oceanside, there is the small Hertz Yard for Chemical Trains to the Oceanside Chemical Plant.

Session: Hobart Hazards
Good morning! It’s 9:05 in the morning and your doing the morning work at Hobart Intermodal Terminal. As we speak, a train is coming from the Port of Long Beach and coming into Hobart and will un-hook it’s cars. Take the loaded cars to the unloading area where you currently are. Then return to the terminal and wait for a second train from the Port of Los Angeles to drop-off it’s cars and take those to the unloading area, too. Stay-off the main line as much as you can to avoid Metrolink and Amtrak coming in/out of Union Station. Once both switch jobs are done, return to the unloading area where you started from and you are done. Get going!

Note: Requires USTrainz.com‘s 50ft American and Western boxcar packs, 60ft KELX and UP Boxcars, UPY MP15, and ATSF GP60s, VMD‘s BNSF GP38-2 Pack, and ProTrainz.com‘s BNSF AC4400CW Pack.

Session: Cross-Town Switchback
Good afternoon! You are running a daily local out of Commerce Yard and back. You need to head to Norwalk’s industrial area to do some work. On the way, you will need to drop-off the hopper on the Montebello industrial wye and continue. You will be diverted to the old Norwalk industrial track where you will drop-off all your cars on the ‘escape track’ and drop-off the tanker car on the “Old Lowes Lot”. Then, return your locos back to Commerce Yard and your done. There is rain in the L.A. Basin today so it will be slick out there. Traffic is light and a Metrolink train shouldn’t be around for another hour. Note: Always apply brakes on the railcars (A key) when you un-couple them. Good luck!

Note: Requires USTrainz.com‘s 50ft American and Western boxcar packs, 60ft KELX and UP Boxcars, UPY MP15, and ATSF GP60s, VMD‘s BNSF GP38-2 Pack, and ProTrainz.com‘s BNSF AC4400CW Pack.

Session: A Day In Oceanside
Good afternoon! You are currently in front of CP College in Anaheim. You are taking the weekly LA257 to Oceanside’s Hertz Yard. On the way to Oceanside, you will need to stop at Laguna Niguel Station and wait for an Amtrak Train to pass, then continue. In Oceanside, stop in Hertz Yard where the Chemical Plant Switcher (Borrowed UP MP15) will come. Un-hook your cars and switch to the UP MP15, switch around the plant to unload all the tanker cars and bring them back to Hertz Yard on the mainline track. Unhook the tanker cars, hop back onto the ATSF GP60s and hook-on to the tankers and return to CP College where you started and then you are done. Watch out for Amtrak traffic. Be careful, and get going!

Note: Requires USTrainz.com‘s 50ft American and Western boxcar packs, 60ft KELX and UP Boxcars, UPY MP15, and ATSF GP60s, VMD‘s BNSF GP38-2 Pack, and ProTrainz.com‘s BNSF AC4400CW Pack.

AAR Railroad Radio Frequency Guide

December 29th, 2008 Posted in Information, Reference | No Comments »

aar_radio

The railroads of North America are assigned a group of 97 frequencies in the VHF band. These frequencies are in the range of 160.110 megahertz to 161.565 megahertz, in 15 kilohertz increments. The frequency assignment within this frequency range is managed by the Association of American Railroads (AAR), which is an industry association composed of the various railroads of the United States and Canada.

With the increasing use of run-through trains and leased motive power, many of America’s railroads are equipping locomotives with radio transceivers capable of using all 97 railroad frequencies. For simplicity, the frequencies are assigned channel numbers that are used to select the proper frequency on any AAR 97-channel radio. Since the various railroad operating timetables often refer to the AAR channel numbers, they are included in this list.
